La Gioia

La Gioia is our Sangiovese-based “Super Tuscan”, it is blended from various vineyard patches with different soil types to add complexity. A big and powerful wine, La Gioia is aged at least two years in new and second-use barrique to soften the tannins and add roundness to the palate. It has an internal flavour, with scale and depth, it is the ultimate expression of open hearted full fleshy plum richness of Sangiovese.

TERROIR: Soils of limestone and clay. Altitude: 500 m

ALTITUDINE: 500 s.l.m

VINEYARD: Gaiole in Chianti (Siena). Certificated Organic by ICEA and introducing biodynamic practices.


YIELD  20 hl/ha

HARVEST Picked by hand with 2 selections: in the vines and vibrating sorting table. Generally second week of October.

WINEMAKING Separated by plots. Grapes are crushed by foot and then, either fermented in open top bins or cement “Nomblot” tanks. Maceration for about 40 days and pressed off.

AGEING: Aged more than 2 years in 500 L new Tonneaux, second and third hand passage.

BOTTLING : February 2017. Production: 7 000 bottles of 75 cl, 150 magnums of 1,5 L and 30 jeroboams of 3L.

CELLARING: Can be enjoyed now and will last up to 20 years

TASTING NOTES rosso granato. Garnet red robe. Ample and very fine wine with notes of black fruits (blackberry and blackcurrant). Subtle spices greatly supported by velvety and rounded tannins. Long finish on flowers (peony and violet), cocoa and tobacco.

FOOD & WINE pairing Ideal with Tuscan stew, grilled and smocked dishes seasoned with aromatic herbs (Thyme, Rosemary). Accompany well mild-spiced Curry of lamb with cumin or cardamom. A special mention for pigeon with prune sauce or jugged hare
